The full conference program has been sent to paid participants via a link and via shared Google folder (check your email and/or  “shared with me” folders in Google Drive).  Below we describe the contents of this folder and provide direct links to the documents in the folder.

The folder can be accessed HERE.

You can access the program directly here.  We recently made a few minor changes to the program — we added documents to the program that were previously external to the program within the shared folder, such as the list of session URLs, and we added hyperlinks to the schedule matrix. People can access sessions by clicking within the schedule matrix, or by clicking the link in the list of URLs.  Participants were also emailed the list of session URLs.

A mirror of the conference program, publicly accessible, and without the access links to sessions, is here.

The instructions (mirror) describe how to access sessions as an audience member, and how to access the session in which you are on the program.  The instructions are also included in the program.

Speakers for each session should have already received an email directly from Zoom, which they should use to access the session with rights to use the microphone, video, and screensharing for their session.  Do not share your speaker’s link with anyone.

The zoom link might have arrived recently, so if you haven’t seen it yet, you should check again before your session starts.  If the Zoom links do not arrive via email,  please check your spam folders, but if still not available, speakers can enter as an audience member, and we will promote them to speakers at the beginning of their session, as described in the instructions.

Any other updates will be posted here.

The shared google drive folder provides access based on the email address you used to register.  If you don’t have access and you have paid, or for other problems, please contact calsoc.org@gmail.com.

Have a great conference!

1. What is the deadline for session submissions and presentation submissions?
-The deadline for presentation submissions is Oct. 15
-The deadline to volunteer as a session organizer was August 15.
2. What is the deadline for registration?
-The payment deadline is Oct. 27.  Everyone attending the conference must pay.  See the payment page for more detail.
.
In order to appear on the program and participate as a presenter or organizer, every person must pay for registration and membership by Oct. 27.  People that have not completed the payment by this deadline may have their work taken off the program.  Registrations after Oct 27 are not allowed for presenters or session organizers.
.
If you are a co-author but not attending the conference, you are not required to pay (but we sure do welcome payment, if you could).  At least one author of each paper must have paid by the Oct 27 deadline, or the paper will be taken off the program.
.
People that are not on the conference program (i.e, not presenting or organizing) will be allowed to register after Oct 27, and can complete registration until the end of the conference (Nov 12).
3. How long are sessions and what is the suggested number of presentations per session?
-Sessions are 1 hour and 30 minutes each.  Each Session should have 3-5 presentations, and time for audience feedback and collective discussion.  Sessions with less than 3 papers will be cancelled and the papers will be moved to a different session.  Sessions with more than 5 papers will be split into multiple sessions.
4. . Who are the student sessions for?
-We envision the student sessions to provide a forum for all undergraduate student presentations.
5. Can organizers present in their own session?
-Yes
6. Can I submit the same paper/presentation to more than one session.
– No. Please only submit the presentation to your first choice session.  In the unlikely scenario that the organizer does not accept your presentation, please contact us (calsoc.org@gmail.com) and we will help you find another session in which you can present.
7. Can we present in multiple sessions?
– Maybe.  We allow people to present in different sessions only if they are presenting substantially different material each time.
.
8. Can organizers create multiple sessions if they receive enough submissions to do so?
– Yes.
9. Do organizers need to find presenters for their session?
-Yes.  While the CSA posts the session list on the webpage, and sends multiple emails to past participants and CA faculty, in our experience this often is not enough to fill all the sessions.  Therefore, we suggest that each session organizer also is expected to work on their own to find presenters for their session.
10. What is the role of the session organizer?
-The session organizer is responsible for recruiting and accepting participants to his or her session, communicating expectations to participants, and for running the session on the day of the conference, especially keeping time in the session to ensure the session starts and ends on time, and to ensure allocation of equal presentation time for each presentation, and time for audience feedback and collective discussion.  The session organizer may choose to not use a discussant, personally serve in the role of discussant, or recruit a colleague to serve as discussant.  After the Oct 15 deadline, and no later than Oct 22, session organizers will send their complete session information (with the author names, institutional affiliations, and presentation titles of each presentation) to the CSA organizing team via the designated form
11. Should organizers wait until after that deadline before accepting presentation for their sessions and just confirm that they received the submission and let them know decisions will be made after the deadline or is it ok to accept the presentations for a panel before the deadline to fill them up more quickly?
-Session organizers normally should accept presentations as they arrive.
12. Do I need to wait to pay for registration/membership until after my presentation is accepted by a session organizer?
-You do not need to wait for approval from your session organizer before registering.  If you have not received an acceptance email from the session organizer yet, you should receive that in the coming days.  In the unlikely scenario where the session organizer does not accept your presentation, we will help you find another session in which to present.  Everyone that has submitted presentation materials to a session organizer and paid for registration by the deadlines will be provided an opportunity to present in one of our sessions.

13.  Should the papers be only from people associated with California universities or only from people who have California as the empirical locus of their work?

-No.  Presenters can be from anywhere and topics can transcend CA.  The CSA does not restrict submissions by the geography of the author(s).  The CSA accepts individuals’ academic research presentations which are professional, sociological, and ethical.
